Car Wash Terror

wash7

Winter in Buffalo means buying car wash books to keep the salt off your cars. After a morning car wash today, by nightfall it’s all back.

I remember when my daughter was old enough to realize she was terrified of the car wash. We pulled in and she was excited waiting to go through the “Octopus” wash.

And then the “Octopus” hit the car and she let out a whimper and asked to hold my hand.

And then came the red spinner.  The whimper grew a bit louder and she let go to plug her ears.

I told her to look at the pretty lights outside the soap suds but soon the window was covered and she said “hurry mommy turn on the car lights so it’s not dark in here”.

A quick rinse and hot dryers and she could see the day light in her near future and she very sternly stated “I never wanna go in there again”.

I think at the age of 12 she is finally getting over her traumatic car wash fear 🙂

Bird Wars…

When you keep bird feeders around your yard, the birds let you know when they are empty.  This little cardinal was pecking at the window today letting me know it was time to refill.

As I went out to refill the feeder (it was very snowy and windy) he sat on a nearby tree branch watching.  He was very happy, as you can see by the picture, to swoop in and get his breakfast.

Soon after, his breakfast was disturbed by a pesky bluebird who kept flying at him to chase him off.

The cute little redhead would not give up and declared war on the bluebird.  He swooped at him over and over until the bluebird finally decided it was best to move on.

And the bluebird and a few sparrows surrendered and decided to eat the seed from below the feeder that the feisty redhead dropped!

Snow Ice Cream

A big thank you to Jill at The Prairie Homestead for sharing this wonderful recipe (Snow Ice Cream).  We finally had a chance to make it tonight and it was a huge hit.

The kids happily collected fresh snow that was coming down

We used the 8 cups the recipe called for.  You can cut this in half as it was more than enough for a family of 4

Next we measured and mixed the remaining ingredients (1 cup of cream, 1 tsp. vanilla and 1/2 cup maple syrup).  We added an extra 1/4 cup of syrup and it was just perfect for a nice after dinner dessert.(we used store bought as we are out of our homemade syrup)

We whisked it into the snow mixing a bit longer to make it creamy and smooth.  YUM

Now we have 2 awesome recipes (Molasses on Snow Candy) that we can make on those snowy nights!

Smoothies

IMG_1460

There are times when life is so busy I can’t get my stress relieving walks in.  The past few months have been that way and I can feel my shoulders creeping up around my neck with tension.  The best thing for me is a few days of “detoxing” with great healthy food kicked off with a veggie packed smoothie every morning.

You can make smoothies with almost any vegetable and fruit you have.

I used a handful of kale, blackberries, flax seeds, slice of apple, 1/2 cup orange mango juice, 5 ice cubes and a squeeze of honey for this one.  It looks brown but it’s a deep purple color.  It was sweet, filling and packed full of great nutrients.

The next morning I had kale and collard greens with some oj, and remember those flash frozen peaches (Flash Freezing Peaches) I made in the summer?  I threw a few of those in with some cranberries and black berries.  Another great body boost full of goodness!

Tomorrow I will use the frozen cherries we picked (freezing fruit) as well as the orange juice ice cubes (OJ ice cubes).

Whatever you have works and you can sweeten it if need be with honey or agave.

Throughout the day drink a few glasses of water with lemon.

After 2 days I can already feel the tension leaving my body!!

Cheers (clink)
